Three year B.Sc. Nautical Science course is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping (Government of India). It is a course leading to Second Mate's Foreign-Going Certificate of Competency awarded by the D.G. Shipping after 12 months of Sea Service, Enabling the cadets to become Navigating officers on board Merchant Navy Ships worldwide. This course is strictly residential. All candidates applying for B.Sc Nautical Science Course also need to appear for a COMMON ENTRANCE TEST (CET) conducted by the INDIAN MARITIME UNIVERSITY (IMU). Eligibility Criteria:
Educational qualifications:
Pass in 10+2 (or) equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and English as Separate subjects with a PCM average of not less than 60%.
Minimum of 50% marks in English language at 10th or 12th standard.
Age Limit - Maximum 25 years of age as on 1st of January or 1st of August.
Physical Standards - Medically fit as per the standards set by M. S. Medical Examination Rules, 2000.
Eyesight - Candidates have to Qualify a full eyesight test conducted by the Mercantile Marine Department before being finally selected for the course. They should have 6/6 in each eye without visual aids and should be free from colour blindness.

For Female Candidates: Rs 1,40,500 Per year.

The syllabus of course is drawn up with a view in giving broad-based marine education, with special emphasis on fundamentals of marine subjects and practical aspects of profession.
All applicants to the above 3-year B.Sc (Nautical Science) need to fulfil the guidelines of the Director-General of Shipping, Mumbai with regard to physical fitness. The prospective candidates are required to produce a medical fitness certificate in the prescribed format issued by a Medical Officer approved by Directorate General of Shipping. Only unmarried candidates are eligible to apply for DNS, B.Sc (Nautical Science) and B.Sc (Maritime Science).
